Programs and Hours
Awareness of each child’s developmental readiness is the underlying principle of our early childhood curriculum. We understand that children pass through predictable stages in their cognitive, physical, linguistic, and social/emotional growth. Our teachers nurture and challenge each child through the individual steps of his or her developmental path.
Early Childhood Center Programs and Classes Include:
Baby and Me
Levine Academy offers a Baby and Me class that is a valuable experience for parents and children 3 - 14 months of age. The play group meets once a week and is led by a Baby and Me facilitator. Children play with age-appropriate toys, participate in music and movement, and enjoy story time. Parents will have an opportunity to discuss parenting issues both amongst themselves and with guest speakers.
Toddler and Me
This class is designed for parents and children 15 - 24 months of age. Toddler and Me meets once a week and is led by an early childhood facilitator. Children and parents will participate in music, movement and art projects, enjoy story time in the ECC Library, and play on the toddler playground. This two hour class is an extension of Baby and Me. Parent and Me
Parent and Me is an exciting introduction to the Levine Academy Early Childhood Center. During the first semester, children 18 - 24 months have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with our ECC Program. The second semester, in January, the children attend this class on their own. Parent and Me meets twice a week enabling children to experience all aspects of our ECC Program: Torah Service, art, music, library, movement, snack, lunch and playground time. Mini-Tots Through Pre-Kindergarten (12 months through 5 years)
The educational philosophy of the Levine Academy Early Childhood Center is based on meeting the developmental needs of children. The programs are designed to meet each child’s emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs. Classrooms are set up in learning and interest centers, and include an extended “free selection time” each day that encourages children to initiate play on their own. Children are encouraged to think, create and problem-solve in a rich stimulating and inviting environment. Children have the opportunity to express themselves in varied media, paint, clay, cooking, drama and writing, where every activity is designed to nurture each child’s individual creativity.
Judaic Program
Levine Academy’s early childhood environment is designed to provide children with a strong and positive Jewish identity. Children experience Judaism as a joyful way of life each day. The symbols and traditions of Jewish life are made accessible, understandable, and tangible.
- Throughout the Early Childhood Center, children gain a Jewish vocabulary and Jewish orientation to the seasons of the year.
- Throughout the day, students learn to recognize Jewish symbols, holidays, Torah stories, and prayers.
- There are two formal Jewish studies mini-sessions per class weekly, plus Havdalah each Monday, a Torah Service on Thursday, and Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday.
- All Jewish holidays and special commemorative days are taught through educational units and programming.
Extended Day Program
Levine Academy offers extended day programs for children who need morning and/or afternoon care. The program provides a safe, comfortable environment with structured activities. The afternoon Extended Day has an enriched curriculum and varied activities available.
